Bookkeeping & Financial Oversight

Money and Trees

Overview

As we all know, money doesn’t grow on trees.  But, manage your finances responsibly, forecast and budget realistically, and bingo, you can operate securely and build for the future.

My expertise is in non-profit accounting, including:

    • Monthly reconciliation
    • Customer and vendor account management;
    • Tracking restricted and unrestricted grants, contributions and assets;
    • Setting up the chart of accounts and classes for efficient reporting
    • Running reports for staff and board
    • Automated depreciation.

I can also set up “dashboards” which allow you track and present meaningful information to your board or finance committee in a way which makes decision-making easier.

Accounting Software

I recommend Quickbooks Online for accounting software.  This is the only platform I use.

It is possible to transfer prior accounting history into Quickbooks Online – so don’t close the door if you are using a different software.

Fees

I bill by the hour and will propose a monthly minimum and maximum number of hours after reviewing your in house set-up and current financial systems.

Bookkeeper or Accountant?

My services are less than those provided by an external accountant; but usually more than the skill set of a bookkeeper.

Do The Numbers Add Up?

Accuracy

Accurate bookkeeping is crucial for nonprofits as it helps build donor and grantor confidence in the effective management of the organization.  Additionally, providing precise and up-to-date information for board members is essential for informed decision-making needed to propel the organization forward.

By maintaining accurate monthly and end-of-fiscal-year bookkeeping, you can save money when an external letter of review or audit is needed.

Efficiency, GAP / Best Practices

I can perform monthly reconciliations for bank and other organizational accounts.  This includes identifying errors that impact accuracy of financial statements and customer accounts.  As part of my services, usually contracted on a monthly basis, I train staff in correct work flows and entry of income and expenses for the long-term.

I will recommend best practices for your bookeeper; and will advocate for separation of duties to make sure your books are secure.

I am Quickbooks Online certified; and am currently studying for advanced certification.
